Huoshan Huangya
Yellow tea is the least known category of tea. Once an exclusive tea prepared solely for the Chinese imperial court, its production method was nearly lost for centuries and was only rediscovered in the 1970s. Today, yellow tea is produced in small quantities in only a few regions of China, primarily in Hunan and Anhui provinces, and is still regarded as a highly prestigious gift tea.
The production of yellow tea is a complex, highly skilled handcrafted process. The leaves are initially processed in a similar way to green tea: after brief withering, they are heat-fixed. While still warm and moist, they are wrapped in special paper for several hours, allowing them to slowly mellow and develop their characteristic softness. This unique process gives the infusion a gentle, velvety character with less pronounced grassy notes than green tea, revealing a sweet and silky smooth finish.
Huoshan Huangya is a premium yellow tea from the Huoshan county of Anhui Province. Its name translates as “Yellow Bud Tea,” referring to the delicate young tea buds from which it is crafted. Processed using traditional techniques, it is prized for its refined softness and elegant character.
